Job Location: 1905 Stewart Avenue, Wausau WI 54401

Status: Full-time, Exempt (salary)

Hours: Workday is normally 8-5pm, Monday Friday, expected to work the hours needed to meet job performance expectations

Job Summary:

Implement and monitor sound credit underwriting standards, procedures, and policies that are compliant with regulatory directives and the credit culture of the bank. Maintain a credit approval process that monitors and manages authorities for lending personnel and loan committees to ensure acceptable levels of risk. Monitor the asset portfolio for diversification by asset type, interest rate risk in floating rate loans from rate shocks, and concentrations and co-variance risks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of bank wide commercial credit policy and credit administration and procedure. Oversee and ensure sound credit decisions. Approve loans within lending authority.
  • Nurture a credit culture consistent with Board standards and expectations. Oversee the system of credit analysis and quality control for all loans made as required by the Board Loan Policy.
  • Monitor and maintain asset quality standards via written Loan Policy policies and procedures, updating each as appropriate.
  • Define guidelines and monitor the portfolio level of concentration by loan type and industry with respect to total risk.
  • Monitor and make recommendations for the loan loss allowance to maintain reserve levels proportionate with the portfolio growth and identified risks.
  • Participate in risk assessment practices to identify areas of concern or potential exposure to loan losses. Communicate trend problems, classified, non-accrual and restricted, delinquent and non-performing assets.
  • Oversee the quality of credit presentations so the final product anticipates borrower repayment issues and logically supports the proposed transaction.
  • Cooperates with and participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. CRA, BSA, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Flood Insurance, HMDA, etc.; ensures that the department and all personnel adhere the same.
  • Develop and maintain the commercial appraisal review process and completes the review of complex commercial appraisals.
  • Provide leadership, supervision and coaching of credit officer to ensure job expectations are met. Provide training and mentoring of commercial credit leader and team for career advancement and enhancement, developing an increase of independence in all job aspects, particularly relating to more complex credits. Provide performance feedback and coaching, holding employees accountable. Foster a rewarding work environment conducive to employee engagement.
  • Participation in community events and activities to support Pride in Peoples.

Desirable education, experience and skills:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a Business Administration and/or Finance from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of seven years of commercial lending experience preferably within a bank environment. A minimum of five years of management experience.
  • Specialized formal credit training preferred.
  • Ability to effectively analyze significant amount of data and information, and distill and communicate it to the key points impacting a borrower's ability repay the bank debt.
  • Capabilities to gather, summarize and interpret information from other business units.
  • Advanced computer literacy including spreadsheets, word processing and database management.
  • Ability to maintain constructive working relationships and influence others.
  • Excellent communication and presentations skills.

Level of Contact:

  • Reports to CEO for strategic direction and guidance, has day-to-day interactions with commercial group leader, market presidents, commercial lenders.
  • Day-to-day leadership and communication with commercial credit leader and credit analysts.
  • Regular contact with senior management to integrate risk management function with overall business strategy and to develop risk management policies and procedures.
  • As needed, contact with regulatory agencies.
  • Regular contact with officer and board loan committees to ensure loans meet credit policy and audit guidelines.
  • Educating and training of others in risk management concepts and practices.
